How's the December mood so far?
For most of us, it’s a mix of ups and downs, stress and calmness, hysteria, anguish, and peace, all rolled into one!
While feeling a bit of everything, I’m here at Café del Mundo, surrounded by the buzz of travelers from around the world. Funny enough, they don’t seem too stressed or anxious, just living another beautiful day on the road.
Have you ever celebrated Christmas far from home?
Maybe it’s your first year traveling during the holidays, or perhaps it wasn’t even a choice to be away from home this time of year. Even though I’m a Christmas person and have always loved celebrating with my Swedish family, I’ve had my fair share of holiday adventures elsewhere.
Some were tough, like my first Christmas at 19, traveling with friends far away from home, battling a terrible Bali belly in Indonesia. Others were unforgettable, like celebrating in Cameroon on the black beach with Swedish glögg, gingerbread cookies, and way too much wine! Each of them had its own charm, even the tear-filled ones.
Already in late July, we started getting questions and emails from travelers around the world asking if we would be open at Café del Mundo for Christmas.
This year, we’ve decided to move our Christmas celebration to our sister restaurant, Tambo, just next door.
Café del Mundo will be open as usual, but Tambo will host live Bolivian Christmas music and dances, traditional food, and some surprises until midnight. This way, no one feels lonely, and everyone can celebrate together while experiencing a piece of Bolivian Christmas traditions.
If you’re on the road or staying home this year, one thing is certain: we’re nearing the end of 2024.
If you haven’t started planning your trips for 2025 yet, now’s the perfect time to begin.
Imagine celebrating Christmas 2025 on a sandy beach, a snowy mountain, poolside, or in the African savannah surrounded by wildlife. Or maybe your next adventure is a quick weekend getaway in January!
