Let’s go on a ride in the sky
September 2024
A new blog post here from La Paz! If you've visited Café del Mundo this past week, we apologize for any noise or mess – we've been busy painting and installing new floors.
Now that everything is finished, the café looks amazing, but we know it wasn’t ideal for those having breakfast during the renovations.
Thank you for your patience! We're happy to welcome you back with fresh new floors and colorful walls!
Every week, travelers ask me, "What should we not miss in La Paz?" Let's be honest, La Paz doesn’t have any famous buildings or monuments like other big cities. But what you absolutely shouldn’t miss is exploring the city and experiencing its unique cultures and traditions, which are still an important part of daily Bolivian life.
To really understand the culture, you have to move around the city, explore different neighborhoods, meet the locals, and stay open to everything around you.
One amazing way to do this is by riding the cable cars!
The system, known as "Mi Teleférico," is the highest urban cable car network in the world, operating at over 4,000 meters. It connects La Paz with El Alto, offering incredible views of the city and mountains.
Since 2014, it has grown to 10 lines, making it not just a transport system but also a fun way to explore La Paz’s stunning landscapes.
Here’s a great tip!
Each cable car line offers its own highlights, and if you have time, I recommend hopping off at different stations to really explore the city.
But if you’re short on time, here’s my favorite quick ride: Take the purple line from Faro Murillo up to El Alto, traveling on the border between El Alto and La Paz with amazing views. Then, at 16 de Julio, switch to the red line back down to La Paz.
On a clear day, the views are breathtaking! You’ll pass over the colorful Chualluma neighborhood, the city’s cemetery, and finish near one of the cutest parks in the center.
This week, we’ve created a freebie to help you get to know the different cable car lines and the highlights they offer, depending on your interests.
