Ready, Set, Explore: great Ways to Build Your Itinerary
October 2024
I hope your week is going great wherever you are in the world! We had such an exciting week at the café, meeting incredible travelers from all over the globe, hearing about their stories, and adventures.
This week, we hosted a lot of adventure seekers who climbed Huayna Potosi, one of the highest peaks in the world (6088m) for people with little experience and minimal preparation!
The great news is that many of them made it to the top and got to enjoy breathtaking views. Other travelers went for an adrenaline pumping downhill ride on the famous Death Road
They returned with some fantastic stories shared here at Café del Mundo!
cool tips for you
In today’s travel blog, we’re sharing some cool tips and ideas on how to create a travel itinerary, whether you're planning while on the road or before you even arrive at your next destination. Planning a trip is exciting, but it’s important to prepare well to ensure a smooth, fun, and stress-free experience.
Whether you're heading out for a short getaway or a big adventure, a good plan helps you make the most of your time and avoid last minute problems. With so much information available today, you can easily find great tips and travel inspiration online!
When I planned my first trip many years ago, things were very different. Back in the early 2000s, we relied on books and magazines. With a bit of luck, you might know someone who had been to your destination to get some advice.
I remember buying Lonely Planet guidebooks, one for each country, and stuffing them into my backpack. But a lot of times, the information was outdated, leaving you lost or needing to change plans on the go.
Today, it's so different! You can find so much travel inspiration and real-time information online. I still love my Lonely Planet books, but I prefer to use their website and other resources when planning my itineraries now.
One important thing to keep in mind: with so much information available, it can sometimes be overwhelming, and not all of it is accurate or up-to-date. Prices, hours of operation, and even safety advice can change quickly, especially in popular tourist spots. So, it’s always a good idea to double-check details from different sources. Cross-referencing information helps avoid confusion and ensures your plans are based on reliable, current advice. Official tourism websites, recent traveler reviews, and forums are great places to start, but always verify details like transportation schedules or accommodation options from more than one source.
This way, you'll have a more accurate and well-rounded itinerary!
Here are some of my favorite travel inspiration and info sources:
Official Tourism Websites: Local or national tourism boards (e.g., Visit Peru, Bolivia Travel) give you up-to-date information on events, attractions, and safety.
YouTube: Search for travel vlogs from recent visitors for inspiration and firsthand experiences.
TikTok: Great for quick, visual inspiration! Many travelers share hidden gems, travel hacks, and daily itineraries. Just remember to double-check the details.
Google Maps/Street View: Use Google Maps to explore areas, check distances, and even take a virtual stroll with Street View to get a feel for a location.
TripAdvisor: Awesome for reviews and rankings. You’ll find recommendations on hotels, restaurants, and must-see spots based on traveler experiences.
Booking.com / Airbnb: Perfect for finding accommodations, with detailed reviews and local insights on neighborhoods and where to stay.
Instagram and Pinterest: Search hashtags or follow travel influencers to see what’s trending and discover hidden gems in your destination.
