A new week means a new blog post coming your way, packed with more information and inspiration to help you make the most of your Bolivian trip!
This week, we’ve been celebrating Spring Day here in La Paz, on September 21st. The city comes alive with fun and happiness during this time. At the café, we served a special Spring and Friendship brunch, designed to encourage making travel plans together, with the added bonus of a chance to win a trip!
And now, we’re excited to announce the winners who will enjoy a 2-day, 1-night trip to Copacabana
Get to Know the Winners here!
This past week, we also sent the first of your donations to help with the fires around Bolivia to Senda Verde, an organization that rescues animals from these fires.
Sadly, the fires are still ongoing, so we’re keeping our donation boxes open to continue supporting this cause.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, and let’s keep working together to help even more!
Now, let’s jump into this week's blog post, where we’ll talk about doing sports and exercising in La Paz, one of the highest cities in the world. Is it possible?
Of course, and it’s actually pretty cool!
Working out in La Paz, Bolivia, at over 3,600 meters (11,800 feet) is definitely an experience!
The thinner air makes everything feel a bit more intense, but that’s what makes it so interesting to try.
Just be sure to give yourself time to adjust and take it easy at first, you’ll soon discover how rewarding and fun it is to push yourself in such a unique place.
When I first arrived in La Paz almost 15 years ago, training wasn’t really a big thing here. There were a few gyms, but the few times I went jogging on a Sunday (less traffic), people looked at me like I was a bit odd. Today, it’s different.
People have started to prioritize exercise, and it’s now a common part of life. In fact, as I write this, there’s even a biking road under construction in the southern part of the city, though no one’s seen anyone biking there yet, but that might change soon!
So, what exercise options do we have in La Paz?
For many people, just walking around the hilly city center is enough of a workout! Some travelers even try jogging up and down the stairs of their hotel or hostel to get a feel for exercising at altitude.
Sundays are a great day to walk around the city, as there’s less traffic, but always be careful of cars when you’re out and about.
If you’re feeling extra tough, there’s a place called the "Thousand Stairs" which takes you up to El Alto. I’ve only ever done the downhill part, more than enough for me! If you decide to try jogging the stairs, go with a guide. It’s safer and will help you stay on the right track. A few times a year, La Paz hosts jogging, walking biking competitions throughout the city.
In Parque Urbano, located in CENTRAL LA PAZ you’ll find small soccer fields, mostly on cement, where people play all day, especially in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends. It’s a great place to meet locals and get some exercise!
La Paz is full of gyms with different prices and levels. Most of them will let you try out a class or a session, and many also offer personal trainers who can give you extra tips at a good price!
We’re listing them in our freebie this week.
Did you know La Paz is home to the highest golf course in the world? At over 3,300 meters (10,800 feet) above sea level, you can play a round of golf with stunning mountain views! Even if you’re not a golfer, it’s worth visiting the area just to relax and maybe enjoy a beer at the restaurant while your friend or partner plays.
Be sure to check out our freebie with more information about gyms and other sport activities in La Paz!
After all exercises, welcome in to Café del Mundo to enjoy a delicious cinnamon roll deal for this week.
It’s the Swedish cinnamon day and even if its always good to be healthy its as important to enjoy the small things in life.

And for all of you who don’t agree with this blog post and the training ideas, I get it, traveling itself can feel like enough exercise!
