3 Hidden Viewpoints to Discover the Best of La Paz
January 2025
It’s time for a new blog post of the week, filled with travel tips and fun info straight from Café del Mundo in La Paz, Bolivia!
I hope you’ve started the year off in the best way possible.
We recently had visitors from the Swedish overland company Pink Caravan, which was super exciting!
This company holds a special place in my heart because it’s where I worked when I first came to La Paz. Overland travel is such a unique way to explore the world, you’re on the road in a truck (or bus, in our case), equipped with camping gear to stay at amazing spots along the way. Meals are cooked on gas stoves, and the road itself becomes part of the adventure.
Traveling overland isn’t just about the places you visit, it’s about the people you meet along the way and the friendships you form with your travel group.
If you’re dreaming of an adventure but don’t want to go solo, these overland companies might be just what you need:
1. Dragoman Overland
Dragoman has been running overland trips since 1981 and is one of the pioneers of this type of travel. They take you to amazing places in Africa, South America, Asia, and the Middle East. If you’re into unique experiences and love meeting locals, their trips are perfect for you.
2. Oasis Overland
Oasis Overland is all about adventure without breaking the bank. They run budget-friendly trips to Africa, the Americas, and Central Asia. If you’re looking for something off the beaten path and love exploring with a group, they’ve got you covered.
3. G Adventures (Overland Adventures)
G Adventures is a big name in travel, and their overland trips are fantastic. They’re all about small groups, exploring amazing spots in Africa and South America, and traveling responsibly. If you want an adventure with purpose, they’re a great choice.
4. Rosa Bussarna / Pink Caravan Sweden
Rosa Bussarna, or the Pink Caravan, is a Swedish favorite for fun and adventurous overland trips. Their signature pink buses take you around the world, with a focus on great company and unforgettable experiences. Perfect if you love travel with a social vibe!
These companies make overland travel exciting, safe, and full of unforgettable memories. Which one would you pick?
When my Swedish traveler friends visited, I shared tips for their short stay in La Paz. Usually, when people have just a few days here, I recommend the popular spots. But some travelers want to go beyond the usual tourist stops and see something truly special.
If you’re one of those who love to explore off the beaten track, this blog is for you! Today, I’ll share my top three lesser-known viewpoints in and around La Paz. Each one offers incredible views of the city, the mountains and the surrounding nature. Even after all my years here, I’m still amazed by the spectacular landscapes these spots offer.
Quick Tip:
These viewpoints are less crowded, so it’s always best to visit during the day and go with someone who knows the area well. Bring snacks, water, and your camera for the full experience
